We are an independent engineering group founded in 1958 by a single man. After decades of growth, our group is now a global player with offices in fifteen countries and a single mission in mind: to plan and build sustainable, liveable infrastructure and urban projects worldwide.
From One Engineer to a Global Group
OBERMEYER started in 1958 as a small engineering office in Krailling near Munich. Our founder, Leonhard Obermeyer, set out to deliver planning and engineering services for ambitious building and infrastructure projects. He gradually built up his reputation, turning a one-man-show into one of the largest independent engineering consultancies in Germany and worldwide. In the 60s, we earned our spurs by successfully completing the full renovation of the Stachus transport and trade hub in Munich. After that, OBERMEYER became a go-to for demanding projects requiring interdisciplinary approach, with in-house teams covering architecture, engineering, and other expert services. We have always been early adopters of new technologies, introducing a computer into our engineering work as early as 1967[YS1.1]. Since then, we have pioneered digital tools in our field, developed software that is now industry standard and kept our focus on sustainability and innovation. Now, decades later, we carry on the mission of our founder: to design and build great projects that improve lives and communities, to stay at the forefront of innovation, and to put people and sustainability at the core of everything we do.

Engineering the future since 1958
1958
Company is founded
Construction engineer Leonhard Obermeyer founds the OBERMEYER engineering office in Krailling near Munich.
1966
Flagship renovation project
Renovation of the Stachus buildings in Munich OBERMEYER is taking charge of the planning, design, structural aspects and local construction management for the renovation of this transport building and of the shopping centre on Karlsplatz (Stachus) in Munich. These were completed back in 1971.
1967
Our first computer
Dr. Leonhard Obermeyer’s team is growing. The company starts to found new subsidiaries in West Germany.
1980
First international project
OBERMEYER expands abroad and opens its first subsidiaries in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the People’s Republic of China.
1990
German Railways Project
OBERMEYER takes charge of the overall planning of the new build for the railway line linking Ebensfeld and Erfurt, part of the rapid transit line between Munich and Berlin that was completed in 2017.
1995
New International Offices
The company is concentrating on expansion abroad. The focus is on the opening of new subsidiaries in Russia/CIS, the United Arab Emirates, south-eastern Europe and North Africa.
2005
1.000 km rail in China
OBERMEYER is appointed as an expert for the planning and management of the project to design the 1000 km high-speed rail link between Wuhan and Guangzhou (People’s Republic of China).
2020
Al Ain Hospital
From 2008, OBERMEYER is taking charge of overall planning and building supervision for the Al Ain Hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This is the first such comprehensive BIM civil engineering project.
2023
New sole shareholder
Jens Ulrich becomes sole shareholder of the OBERMEYER group of companies and focuses the business activities in Germany on the infrastructure sector.
