ODS tests Boston Dynamics' Spot
On behalf of the Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal, ODS is testing the use of the AI robot Spot from the manufacturer Boston Dynamics.
The Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH (BGE) has been commissioned by the Federal Government (Germany) with the tasks in the field of radioactive waste disposal. The state-owned company was founded for this purpose in July 2016.
ODS has already been able to demonstrate its competence in the topics of BIM and digitization at the BGE in several framework agreements. In addition to the classic portfolio elements of the ODS, such as BIM modelling, BIM consulting and BIM management services, the ODS also organises and accompanies evaluation measures for the BGE. This includes in particular the market exploration of robotics solutions for industrial use in the outdoor and indoor areas in industrial environments.
As part of this, ODS conducted a vendor analysis for technology suppliers of Spot, which is produced by Boston Dynamics, and conducted an on-site demonstration at BGE's Asse site.
The test installation at the Asse plant shows that robotics and especially Spot are already ready for use in various scenarios, including noise anomaly detection in machines and motors, as well as autonomous laser scanning and video recording.
